Once everything is mapped out and ready, it’s time to begin installing cameras for NoPileups. There are four steps to camera installation:
Step 1: Walk Through the Plan
Use the tunnel diagram to investigate each area marked for a camera. Check each location while the tunnel is running to see potential obstructions during operation.
Look closely to make sure each camera will be above the “water line.” Try to place cameras at least 1 foot above the line or any other area with heavy moisture.
Place each camera above the “water line.”
Step 2: Hardware "Double-Check"
Re-check the camera specifications to ensure compatibility with NoPileups (see NoPileups Camera Selection). If you have any questions regarding a camera, contact the NoPileups Service Team.
Step 3: Place the First Camera
The first camera you mount will be the first you diagrammed: the entrance camera.
Consider the following while placing the first camera:
- Perpendicular View of the Rail — NoPileups needs an unobstructed view at 90° across the rail (see below). Vehicles crossing the center of the camera should be clearly visible with no distortion. This allows NoPileups to begin tracking vehicles.
- Align the Camera to the Enter Eye — The first camera should align directly with the enter eye, or as close as possible.
- Follow the Rules — Review and follow the camera placement rules covered in Tunnel Diagramming.
The first camera should have an unobstructed, perpendicular view of the rail.
Step 4: Place Subsequent Cameras
It’s now time to mount the remaining tunnel cameras. While the tunnel diagram is a good guide, you will likely need to make small tweaks to the camera positions to give NoPileups a better view.
